I’ve always been drawn to the atmosphere that comes just before a storm, when the light changes and everything suddenly feels quieter.
This painting reminds me of a small village in Provence (where im from) at the end of the day, almost asleep on top of the hill while darker weather slowly approaches.
While painting the sky, I liked the texture that started to appear and decided to leave it visible rather than smooth everything out. I felt it added something to the movement and weight of the clouds.
Village Perché is about that brief moment of calm when the landscape is still, but you can feel that something is coming.
